Lightcone ↔ Sino. The LessWrong / Effective Altruism cluster — impartial expected-value ethics, longtermism, x-risk, AI alignment, the lightcone — is itself a particular intellectual configuration with strong premises about what ethics is, how to think about the future, and what counts as taking the future seriously. This map plots that configuration against its Chinese-tradition counterparts and lets you read the écart between them.

Concepts mirrored in from the East–West atlas sit toward the left: mostly Chinese, plus a few Greek, European, Kyoto School and comparative ones. Only those with a substantial relation to an LW/EA concept appear here. LW/EA concepts (cool tones, on the right) and their thinkers populate the rest of the graph. The bet of this view: the LW/EA memespace's most distinctive moves — formalize ethics as expected-value over impartially counted welfare; reason forward from a desired distant future; treat values as encodable objects to be loaded into AI systems — each have well-developed Chinese counterparts that organize the same problems differently.
